Following Chizuru's separation from the rest of the Shinsengumi, Hijikata does not appear again. The folk remedy could make you heal quicker, and was especially for cuts and bruises.

When Heisuke stays in the compound because he is concerned about Chizuru, Hijikata summons him to scold him for shirking his duties. Later, enemy soldiers discover Hijikata's location and plan a surprise attack but are stopped by Okita, who makes a last stand to protect Hijikata. Hijikata Toshizo is the commander of the Bakumatsu, later husband of Chizuru Yukimura and the main male lead of the story. Even so, Hijikata joined the Shieikan dojo and, after getting permission from the Bakufu, moved to Kyoto to start the While searching for escaped Rasetsu (or Furies), Hijikata runs into After learning of the Choushu plot against Kyoto and the emperor, Hijikata takes the larger part of the Shinsegumi to the Yamazaki house where he hopes to apprehend the conspirators. However, he is too late; he finds only Okita's sword surrounded by the bodies of the defeated enemies, implying that Okita has faded into dust after completing his last mission. Carrying him away, Chizuru tries to heal him with her blood.

Hijikata Toshizo is based on the historical figure If Chizuru tries to escape, Hijikata appears again to reiterate his threat to kill her. He is the youngest among the Shinsengumi, who loves festivals and comes from Edo. Hijikata and his army is forced to retreat before the enemies arrive. Hijikata tells him that it wasn't his fault and shakes his hand in the end. If Chizuru stays in her room, Kondou stops by and explains to Chizuru that Hijikata is "the sort of man who can't help but care for others", and that though he may be strict, he is keeping Chizuru confined to the compound for her own good. His troops take a castle as a result, though that castle would be reclaimed by the enemy due to the Bakufu's incompetence.
